How to Pick a Rooftop Bar in Bangkok
- Dinner with a view: Above Eleven, Belga or Sirocco.
- An early drink at sunset: Sky on 20, at happy hour.
- A night out with music: Tichuca or Above Eleven.
- A view all round: Octave in Thonglor, or Vertigo and Moon Bar in Sathorn.
- The tallest view: Sky Bar at lebua, or Red Sky near Siam.
- Temples at sunset: Sala Rooftop Bar on the river.
Plan Your Rooftop Night
- Timing. Go before sunset, around 6 PM, so you see the city in daylight and then in lights. The high season usually runs from November to February. The air is cooler and drier then, and the open air bars are busiest.
- Dress code. Most of the bars above list rules. Above Eleven wants fully covered shoes for men and no sleeveless tops. lebua, Octave and Banyan Tree want smart casual or casual chic dress. If you pack closed shoes, long trousers and a shirt with sleeves, you meet all of them.
- Booking ahead. Above Eleven and Sky on 20 list a reservation form on their sites. Book a table if you want a view seat at sunset.
- Getting there. Use the BTS or MRT where you can, then a taxi or Grab for the last stretch. Show the driver the name of the building, not only the bar. Rain can close open air areas, so check the sky before you go. Plan your way back before you start drinking, and book a car or a Grab from the lobby.
Planning a few nights out? Book a therapist for the end of one of them. You send your hotel name and the time on WhatsApp, and we confirm the therapist, the price and the arrival time.
