Massage Scams in Bangkok: Red Flags to Avoid

Most massage in Bangkok is honest. The city runs on it. Millions of sessions happen every year with no problem at all. But where tourists spend money, a few old tricks follow them. The good news: every scam on this list dies the moment you check a few simple things.

Real Bangkok massage therapists with public profiles, the opposite of massage scam accounts

What are the five massage scams in Bangkok?

The five patterns: the deposit scam (you pay first, nobody comes), the price switch (the price grows at your door), the fake photos (a different person shows up), the street tout (a stranger walks you to a shop that pays him), and the pressure sell (add ons pushed on you mid session).

Learn these five and you are very hard to cheat. Each one gets its own section below.

The deposit scam: you pay first, then you meet nobody

This is the number one massage scam in Bangkok. An account with beautiful photos asks you to send money first. To confirm the booking. To hold the time. After you send it, the account blocks you. No one was ever coming.

Here is the part most people do not know. The person behind the account is often not the woman in the photos. Many of these accounts are run by men. Some are not even in Thailand. The photos are stolen from real people, and the person typing is a stranger in another country.

One rule keeps you safe: never pay before the therapist is standing at your door. No deposit. No booking fee. No small payment to hold your time. A real outcall company in Bangkok never asks for money up front.

The price switch: 500 becomes 2,000 at your door

The chat says one price. Then the price changes. A travel fee appears. The special price ends. Or the quote was for 30 minutes, not 60. This trick works because you are tired, or undressed, or too polite to argue.

How to stay safe: book only with companies that show a full price list on their website, and confirm the total in chat before the visit. A price written in chat cannot grow. If the price still changes at your door, do not argue and do not negotiate. Say no, close the door.

The fake photos: a different person shows up

First, the honest truth about photos. Real therapists also want to look their best. Makeup, good light, a nice photo shoot, and now beauty filters too. That is normal and human. A photo can be prettier than everyday life, and she is still the same person.

The scam is something else. The photos show one person, and a completely different person arrives. Not a flattering photo of her: a photo of somebody else. That tells you the company lied at step one. Expect more lies after.

How to stay safe: book from companies where each therapist has her own profile with several photos and reviews that use her name. One glamour shot and no name is not a profile. It is bait.

At Indy Massage Bangkok every therapist has her own profile page, and we check that profiles show the real person. Are the photos flattering? Often, yes. People are. But the woman at your door is the woman you picked, and her reviews, written by real guests who name her, prove it visit after visit.

The street tout: your new friend works on commission

A friendly stranger near a tourist spot says he knows a very good massage place. He walks you there. The shop pays him for bringing you, and your bill quietly includes his fee. In worse versions, the shop pushes add ons hard, or adds extra charges while your shoes and bags sit behind the counter.

How to stay safe: never follow someone who approached you first. Good shops do not need street recruiters. Good outcall companies do not need to find you. You find them.

How do you check if a massage service is legitimate?

Three checks beat every scam on this page: real Google reviews, real therapist profiles, and a public price list. A scammer can fake one of these for a short time. Faking all three, for months, with details that match, is harder than running an honest business. So no scammer does it.

What honest looks like

For contrast, here is the honest version of the whole process. You find the company yourself. You pick a therapist from a real profile. The full price is on the website. The chat confirms the therapist, the time, and the total. You pay when she arrives, never before. At Indy Massage Bangkok, that is the entire process, in writing, every time.

If a service cannot match that shape, whatever the reason, book one that can.
