Chiang Mai Malls Guide: MAYA, Central Festival, Promenada and More
This guide lists six Chiang Mai malls, sorted by area: Nimman and the edge of town. Each one has a short note on what it is good for, the best time to go and how to get there.
Malls are cool, dry and easy, which helps on a hot or rainy day. Opening hours usually run from late morning to about 9 or 10 at night. Check each mall before you go, because hours change on holidays. Most have free wifi, ATMs and clean toilets, which makes them a good place to reset during a long day in the city.

Nimman Malls
Nimman is the trendy part of Chiang Mai, with cafes, small shops and a lot of young visitors. Three malls sit in or near it, so you can link them on foot or with a short ride.
MAYA Lifestyle Shopping Center
MAYA is the best known mall in Nimman. It has shops, cafes and a food area. It has a cinema and a rooftop area, check the mall for what is open. Go in the late afternoon, when the heat drops and the rooftop is pleasant. It suits anyone who wants cafes and shopping in one place. It sits at the busy corner where Nimman meets Huay Kaew Road, so check your map. The drawback is traffic around it at the end of the day. If you drive or take a Grab, leave a little extra time to get out of the area.
One Nimman
One Nimman is a small shopping village rather than a big mall. It has Northern Thai gifts, design shops, cafes and a courtyard with events. It usually opens late morning and closes in the evening, so check the hours. It suits a slow walk before dinner. It is in the Nimman area, a short walk or ride from MAYA. The drawback is that the space is small, so it fills up on weekends. We also cover it in the Chiang Mai night markets guide.
Think Park
Think Park is a small, relaxed lifestyle spot in the Nimman area, with a few shops, cafes and places to eat. Go for a coffee or a light meal rather than a full shopping trip. It suits a short stop when you are already in Nimman. The drawback is that it is small, so it will not fill a whole day. It pairs well with MAYA, since you can see both in one afternoon. Check your map for the exact spot and the hours.
Malls on the Edge of Town
These three are bigger and sit away from the Old City. Plan a ride for each one.
Central Festival Chiang Mai
Central Festival is one of the biggest malls in Chiang Mai. It has a large choice of fashion and food, and usually a supermarket, a cinema and events. Go on a weekday, because weekends get busy. It suits families and anyone who wants everything under one roof. It is outside the city centre, so take Grab or a red songthaew and agree the price first. The drawback is the ride, which can be slow at rush hour.
Central Chiang Mai Airport
Central Chiang Mai Airport, also called Central Airport Plaza, sits close to the airport. It usually has shops, food and a supermarket. It is handy if you land early or have time before a flight. Many hotels are a short ride away. Check the hours and the way from the terminal on your map. The drawback is that it is smaller than Central Festival, so it suits a quick visit. If you arrive with luggage, leave it at your hotel first.
Promenada
Promenada is a resort style mall with open walkways, a calm pond and a village feel. It is more of an outing than a quick shop. Go in the late afternoon and stay for dinner. It suits couples and families. It is on the edge of town, so you need a car or a Grab. Some visitors also ask about Chiang Mai Premium Outlets, which is a separate outlet mall. Check its address and hours before you plan a trip. The drawback is the distance from the centre.
Nimman vs Airport Side
Pick your mall by where you sleep, because the ride is the real cost in Chiang Mai. Traffic can be slow at rush hour, so a short trip can take longer than the map says.
- Nimman. MAYA, One Nimman and Think Park sit close together. This is the best area for cafes and a short mall day, and you can walk between them.
- Airport side. Central Chiang Mai Airport fits a flight day. Central Festival and Promenada need a longer ride, so give each its own trip.
Rainy Day Mall Plan
The rainy season brings sudden showers, and a mall is a good place to wait them out. Here is a simple plan.
- Morning. Have breakfast at your hotel, then take a Grab to MAYA or Central Festival when it opens.
- Lunch. Eat in the food area, which is cheaper and quicker than a sit down meal.
- Afternoon. Watch a film, walk the shops or sit in a cafe until the rain stops.
- Late afternoon. Walk across to One Nimman if the sky clears, or stay inside.
- Evening. Take a Grab back and rest. A massage at your hotel ends the day well.
Massage After a Mall Day
Shopping means hours of walking on hard floors. A therapist can come to your hotel, condo or villa when you are back. See outcall massage in Chiang Mai. If you stay in Nimman, we cover that area on outcall massage in Nimman, and Nimman and Old City have their own location pages. Near the river, see Riverside. The full list is on Chiang Mai locations. Pay cash or PromptPay on arrival.
Plan Your Mall Day
- Best time. Go on a weekday, when the malls are calm. Late afternoon is cooler for the walk between shops.
- Getting around. Use Grab, or a red songthaew and agree the price before you get in. Save your hotel name on your phone for the ride home.
- Cash. Malls take cards, but small food stalls and songthaews may not, so carry small notes.
- Hours. Hours usually run from late morning to the evening. Check each mall, since holidays change them.
- Staying safe. Keep your bag in front of you in crowds, and keep your phone and wallet zipped away.
